Susan Temby was raised on a West Australian wheat and sheep farm, and went to the University of W.A where she studied English Literature and later to the University of Technology Sydney for a Masters of Arts in Writing. She spent some years acting and directing in professional theatre both in Australia and London. She has taught creative drama to children, writing and producing films and plays for them.

She has been a drama coach and dialogue coach for film and television and a university tutor in writing.

She is married and has two children and lives on the edge of a national park in outer Sydney where she likes to walk and paddle a kayak, keep horses and grow a garden.
